Marvel Adventures: The Avengers (2006) #15
Avengers Tower. Manhattan.
Logan: What do you mean she’s in five places at once?
Rachel: Exatly that, Logan…I don’t know how she did it…but Cerebra is showing Hope’s energy reading in five different locations.
Logan: You must done something wrong. Try again, Rachel.
Rachel: I did try again, and got the same results. Believe it or not, I know how to use Cerebra. So if you want to help the Avengers track down Hope…those coordinates I sent are all I can do.
Logan: What the hell is that supposed to men?
Rachel: Nothing…it’s just early…and using Cerebra always gives me a headache…
Logan: Look, kid, if you got a problem with this, then—
Steve: Thanks, Rachel…you’ve been a big help.
Rachel: Sure…no problem.
Logan: What the hell, Rogers? I can deal with my won people.
Steve: We’ve lost enough time already…and we all know what your solution to the problem is. What were you going to say that would make her feel better?
Rachel [psychically]: Scott…can you hear me?
Scott: Loud and clear, Rach.
Rachel: Well…I’ve got some information on Hope, and you’d better hurry…the Avengers are already on the trail…
— From Avengers vs. X-Men #2 by Jason Aaron, art by John Romita Jr.
I have no idea why Logan ever though Rachel was going to be on the Avengers side in this. She knows the Phoenix force can be controlled, she did it herself for years. Also, she’s Scott Summers’ daughter.
Finally! Somebody who can write a strong female character like Rachel Summers and do her more than justice. Aaron has finally brought our favorite(living) redheaded X-Man front and center in the great Avengers Vs X-Men epic. Rachel was everywhere in this action-packed issue, whopping ass and taking names. But apart from all the glorious mind punching, and telekinetic kung fu, this issue showed us the Rachel we all know and love; and all grown up from the great person she already was. Avengers Vs X-Men is a war between to sides that want the best for the world. But who’s to say what the best is? And that’s what we find out here, as Rachel struggles to choose a rightful side. Tasked by her father, Cyclops, now 1/5 of the Phoenix Five to track down and retrieve Hope Summers from the Avengers; a task that only a former Hound can do, as Rachel battles those she knew as friends and people she once looked up to.
As the story progress, Rachel struggles to balance out her new peace of mind and her old ways as a hound that hunted and led her mutant race to near extinction. As a battle between her and the Avengers ensues, Rachel is forced into a corner, that sadly she is prepared for. But something amazing happens: Rachel chooses a side, but not the one you may think.
This is issue was beautiful from start to finish, with all the color effects and action sequences, this issue really dazzled. If you asked me, its hands down one of the best issue to come out of AVX thus far. The issue brought to the light some questions fans might have been wondering about, since the beginning of Avengers Vs X-Men, for example, “What role will Rachel play in this event?” “Will Rachel finally get to have a one on one conversation with Hope?” “What are Rachel’s feelings towards the Phoenix Force and the Phoenix Five?” So Bravo Jason Aaron for writing such a terrific issue, and showing the world the point of view that some of us X-Men fans have been longing for!
Review: Wolverine and the X-Men #12
AvX has come to the Jean Grey School for Gifted Youngsters! Well, it has been…but now the Avengers are on the run! And guess who’s hunting them down? Rachel Summers! Oh man!
